Abstract. The most advantageous light and thermic conditions occurred under transparent film. The satisfying yield of lettuce was obtained also under the white and black film despite the light limitation. The greatest yield of lettuce with the highest levels of soluble sugars was obtained in tunnels made of transparent film irrespective of its stock.
Key words:
lettuce, marketable yield, soluble sugars, ascorbic acid, recycling film
The effect of kind and colour of film covering the tunnels
on the lettuce yield and its quality
Summary
The experiment was carried out in 2005-2006 with the lettuce ‘Melodion’ cultivated in the tunnels. The aim of the study was to establish the effect of different kind of film (original and recycling stock) and its color (transparent, white and black) on the lettuce yield and soluble sugars, ascorbic acid and dry matter content in the leaves. The highest transmittance of the PAR radiation and better thermic conditions for plants occurred in the case of transparent film. The greatest yield of lettuce with the highest level of soluble sugars was obtained in tunnels made of this film irrespective of its stock. The satisfying yield of lettuce was obtained also under the white and black film despite the light limitation. The high level of ascorbic acid in lettuce grown under the black film was observed.
